Boswellia resin has been used traditionally by Indian Ayurvedic traditional medicine as an effective anti-inflammatory. It works by blocking the body's synthesis of leukotrienes, substances that can trigger inflammation and lead to the formation of free radicals, as well as being involved in respiratory problems like asthma. Boswellia has proven useful for treating symptoms associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis without causing the side effects of NSAIDs (primarily gastric problems) or loss of effectiveness by the habit of use
